Its funny because my sister in law is having a hard time convincing her mother that circumcision is not medically necessary. Her husband, my brother is not circumcised, but her mother is still incessant on convincing her it is the right way to go. Hopefully, she will see that in this day in age, circumcision of the heart is what we need for salvation.

Hi...I just came across this post, looking for information on how Jewish circumcisions used to be done. I was wondering if you could share with me a source that confirms that only a small part of the prepuce was taken. I believe you, and that aligns so much more with the heart of the God I know. (I'm a Christian with two intact boys, and an intact husband.)

My Christian friends all circumcise their boys, and say the same thing: The dietary laws all make sense, and a kosher diet is very healthy. God provided for hygiene by commanding hands be washed. Why would he recommend circumcision if it didn't have some benefit we don't yet know about?"

Thankfully, none of them believe it has anything to do with salvation.

It's bothered me for some time, and I want to be able to counter their arguments, which just don't ring true to me...you know? I'm planning on sharing this post on facebook, but would very much like to see some references on how ancient circumcisions were done...

Thank you.

My friend wrote up a hilarious (yet accurate) argument about circumcision. Read it at his blog: http://thingsthatshouldntstillexist.wordpress.com/2010/09/23/03-circumcision/
