Many risks are involved in modern circumcision, such as excessive bleeding and penile infection (both occasionally fatal), and all the other risks involved with any surgery. Is it worth the risk, however small, of killing your child for a purely cosmetic procedure? Psychologists have also discovered a link between routine infant circumcision and violent adult behavior; emotional problems with one’s parents; a failure to bond with parents; distrust of and trouble relating to adults, particularly women as it is often a woman who performs the circumcision; poor self esteem; and other psychological and emotional problems. If the doctor, nurse, or whoever cuts too much of the foreskin off, or cuts it unevenly, it might cause the boy to have an oddly shaped (e.g., curved) penis or to have extreme pain whenever he has an erection.
