Other than actual illness, one of the biggest problems for companies today is fake sick days – employees playing hooky by calling in sick when they feel fine. How much revenue does your company lose every year because of fake sick days?

Instead of threatening your employees with suspension, termination or other unpleasant things if they fake a sick day (remember that throughout history, the people, ideas, movements, organizations, religions, etc. that were persecuted the most always spread the fastest), just take away their desire to fake sick days. If they don’t want to fake sick days, they won’t.

According to the National Institutes of Health, at least 70% of all illness and disease (including chronic) is either caused or contributed to by stress.

Their two kinds of stress, distress and eustress (pronounced “you-stress”). Distress is the kind of stress that most people think of when they hear the word “stress.” It’s what you feel when you’re “overwhelmed” or “under the clock” or when you’ve just got some bad news or suffered a trauma of some kind.

Eustress is what you feel when you’re getting married, having a child, working for a promotion, riding a roller coaster, exercising intensely, or receiving a good kick in the rear from a caring friend or mentor. While distress is harmful, eustress can actually strengthen your immune system along with your character. Distress tears you down. Eustress motivates you and helps you to grow and become more than you are now.

If the only kind of stress you feel at work is eustress, consider yourself lucky!

If, however, you’re getting a lot of distress – you’ll need an antidote if you don’t want to end up in the hospital (which, in turn, causes even more distress!)

America has found a new favorite infectious disease to worry about. You’ve probably heard a lot about the dreaded “bird flu” pandemic that many experts are predicting. It seems to be a big concern for a lot of people these days, so I thought I would pen a few strategies that you can use right now to help insure that this latest epidemic won’t turn into tragedy for you or your family…

First, let me explain about sweat. Sweat is one of your body’s ways of ridding itself of toxins and waste products like urea, lactic acid, excess salt, even the poisonous chemicals in tobacco if the person uses it in any form. The skin is called a “third kidney” because it can eliminate as much as two pounds of dissolved waste per day in the form of sweat. If the kidneys are not working well, the skin can be used as a temporary backup. Urine is about 94% water and 6% waste material; sweat is only a little less concentrated at 96% water and 4% waste.

When I felt that tell-tail “slip – pop” and collapsed on the ground, I knew I had sprained my ankle, but it didn’t occur to me at the time that I’d be turning the experience into a blog post.
